Fine Arts collections from 16th to 19th centuries
DENON MUSEUM

Paying hommage to Dominique Vivant Denon, archaeology and Fine Arts are combined…

The local and regional archaeological collections are focused on prehistory with the exceptional Volgu Flints and on the Gallo-Roman period with the no less famous sculpture of a gladiator pinned down by a lion. The archaeological digs, illustrated by models and objects notably weapons and bronze vases of remarkable quality, tell of man’s presence in the Chalon area since pre-history.

The Fine Arts collections, dating from the 16 th to 19 th centuries, include important Italian, Flemish and Dutch paintings, as well as a graphic arts collection which includes a rare group of woodcuts.
